Transformation Through Trauma: Trauma, has many shadow aspects. However, in its light, it holds the potential for healing. Like cracks in a rock, trauma allows healing energy to enter, facilitating the transformation of physical, psychological, and spiritual wounds. It was the 'cracks' my trauma created that allowed a healing power to enter, a vibration I can transmit with my hands and my voice.
Life Energy, Healing and Our Natural States: Our life energy is our sexual energy and it creates all forms, from cells to stars. Tension, emotion and trauma are stored in the body. When this is released, simple sensations like the smell of earth or the touch of rain can induce waves of orgasmic pleasure and feelings of delight. Moreover, free-flowing emotion and sexual energy can heal trauma and tension by transforming the energy they contain into powerful ecstatic conscious states in which dissolution of separation and connection with greater wisdom occur. Such energy can dissolve our felt sense of 'separation' by breaking the illusion of being 'trapped and alone' looking out from the 'head'.
Embodied Healing: As a survivor of extreme abuse, I experienced for myself the power of tantric and shamanic practices when it comes to healing trauma. In extraordinary rituals, I was able to access memories of profound joy and safety that had been lived by other animals and children. These embodied memories from lives I have not lived enabled me to learn what it is to feel 'safe' and have been vital to my healing.
Fundamental Change: Many of us work hard to heal ourselves and challenge this toxic system. However, any change, individual or systemic, that arises only from the collective memory of trauma, will bring with it the seeds of more trauma. Moreover, any change that is underpinned by our felt sense of 'separation' only recreates and reinforces the idea of the 'individual. This undermines our attempts to change this capitalist system. It is therefore essential that we harness the power of trauma and sexual energy. We can use tantric and shamanic practices to recall ways of living beyond collective trauma and to bring about change which arises from a felt sense of interconnectedness rather than separation. This can empower fundamental transformation and healing on both personal, collective and systemic levels.
Integrated Approach: I integrate these understandings into my work both as a facilitator and as an activist work. I work with individuals, couples and teams to support personal healing and conflict resolution. I am part of a project that explores embodied ways of listening and learning with 'wisdom keepers' so that new forms of collective organising might emerge. By supporting personal and collective healing and developing embodied ways of engagement, I hope to be part of a movement to cultivate new forms of living, moving and deciding together conducive to a fundamentally different world.
